PCGS is now giving PL designation to AU Morgans

Hello everyone!

Just discovered something that is apparently VERY new for PCGS -- they are now giving the PL designation to AU-grade Morgans that qualify for it. Previously, PCGS would only give the PL designation to Mint State coins.

According to tonight's on-line Pop Report there is one AU53PL and two AU58PLs.

Interesting!

When in doubt, don't.

Sounds good. I held an AU58 DMPL 1878-S for 20+ years. (Inherited it from my grandmother back in the 1970's, who'd found it in my great-grandmother's desk long before that. To keep it in the family, I passed it on to a newborn nephew in 1999.) There are plenty of AU coins that deserve PL or DMPL status, IMHO.
