My new 63 D Frankie in PCGS MS66FBL. Hey Lucy & Frank.

mdwoodsmdwoods Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭
The reverse is lustrous white, with a hint of ice blue toning when tipped in the light. Very pretty and what you would expect on a 63 D, they almost always come white in high grades. My obverse is not white. I don't know, do you guys think I should keep the coin?image Thanks WONDERCOIN. Mitch does it again. The luster is superb, the photo doesn't really capture that. Happy Mark.

Hey Mark - that coin looks absolutely solid!!!

Can you get a picture of the reverse to see what the bell lines look like! - Looks like an excellent acquisition!!!!

Nice coin! Like you said, a tough coin to find with color.

Mark Woods' power just went out in MI in an ice storm and he asked me to mention this, as he can not respond to anyone for a while.

This 63(d) Franklin is one of the nicest, if not THE nicest 63(d) I have ever seen. I believe it may have been priced a few hundred bucks more than I would have priced a typical white 1963(d) PCGS-MS66FBL for, but, special coins deserve to be priced a bit more IMHO. For those building a color set of Franklins, you know how tough this date is in top grade color.

Let's just say it gets the "Wondercoin Seal of Approval" image

Wondercoin - that's definitely a top notch looking coin - excellent surfaces as any coin of that caliber should have. It seems that MS66's from the 60's always look a tad better due to the reworked die. Great find!

Here's a picture I took of my 63P in MS65FBL - also obverse toned. Most gems did not come from mint sets - rather they were found in rolls, and then endrollers seemed to have the best chance of being gems. 1963 Frankies in my opinion are definitely underrated!

Beautiful coin! I have really enjoyed the variety of toning you find on Franklin Halves. Yours is a great example.

ok, now that I've gathered myself..... mdwoods, you have been taken advantage of, that ugly at coin is the work of a terrible coin doctor...... I feel so bad for you Daddy-o, I am willing to make a huge sacrifice... Just for you, I'll give you whatever you paid for that sickening eyesore...

See how nice the Kitty is.

I call that the "Impossible Coin". A coin- that unless I saw the photo- would tell you does NOT exist! I've never seen a Monster Toned 1963 Franklin.
Until now. Thanks mdwoods for showing it. Definitely unique with that color.

What's next? Someone going to come up with a rainbow toned 1970-D Kennedy and shorten my list yet again?!

So right Braddick. My recent Pop. shows the coin to have a PCGS Population of 21 and a NGC Population of 14.

However, with that COLOR, it is probably a Pop. 1. Fabulous coin. A real keeper. image
  • mdwoods,

That's the nicest toned Frankie I've seen. Way cool and good catch!

Pat: I told M Woods he had to buy the coin sight-unseen from me without a scan. He "rolled the dice" image

As you know, I love beautiful Wash quarters and Roosies as well. But, forget trying to find that 1970(d) Kennedy in top grade with super color - unless you show me the coin in person, I will tell you that coin DOES NOT EXIST!! Wondercoin

That was quite the roll of the dice. Nice payout!
Regarding the 70-D. I know, I know. It's just not out there. Sooooo many 1964's with fabulous toning- even 1965's; 66's, and 67's. I own 1968-D's and 1969-D's with cool toning, but NO 70-D's?
I understand they were packaged differently from the Mint, but you would think, throughout the years, they would have been placed into Dansco's or other holders and allowed to tone somehow.
We can have a 100% toned 2002 ASE, but no 70-D's (a 30+ year old coin now)?

Best I've seen is my icon, a 70-D with rainbow rim toning. Never seen one with great color beyond that.
