Thought Provoking Auction Description. Borders on being a "Must Read".

Although the coin is a beauty, even more so are the words contained within the auction itself.
Probably the best I've read regarding the state of our hobby in quite awhile.

Yes, one of Anaconda's best essays. Perhaps there is a quiet revolution brewing!

  • As usual, Adrian makes sense! Thanks braddick for providing the link. Adrian and I have had a couple of "PM fests" over the last few months regarding his philosophy as a collector and dealer. I admit to a slight PCGS bias mainly because of the premium (all else equal) when selling. However, when cruising the bourse, I see so many substandard coins in third party holders, and so many premium pieces in third party holders, that it all comes down to the old, "Buy the coin, not the holder." This extends to raw coins, but then you must be knowledgeable or be prepared to get burned.

Aside: I was at the Milwaukee show today and saw a 1921-S Lincoln MS64 RD in an ACG holder that I believe was fairly graded! Couldn't pull the trigger at the price, but I was tempted. Just proves my point that there are coins out there in all types of holders that will surprise you (and many others that will disappoint!)

Thanks for the great post. Adrian's Ebay text always makes for excellent comedy.

has anyone told him that the coin shown is a 1923 and the auction title says 1922?

This is the 2nd thread that links to this auction. I didn't read the write-up, so, hopefully you won't mind telling me: does it explain why it is titled 1922 when there is an image of a 1923?

More "manifesto" or essay than item description, but witty and well-written as usual.

LOL- funny, Gilbert... that slipped right past me! image
