Would you leave Neutral or Negative Feedback if...

Would you leave Neutral or Negative feedback for an Ebay auction if you knew you'd get retaliatory feedback in return? I recently bought a coin from a seller who's feedback looked decent. After the auction ended, the seller had received several new negative and neutral feedback comments. I'm pretty sure they were justified because I also had a bad experience with this seller. I emailed this seller a month after the auction ended and about three weeks after my check cleared to find out if the item had been shipped. It had not. The seller had plenty of excuses, though. He was sick, his child takes up a lot of his time, he's the only one handling the sales, etc. (He had the time to list several more items during this time). A few days later I finally receive the coin. It had damage not described in the auction description. Besides the price, the only other thing written on the receipt was ALL SALES FINAL!!! I really want to leave appropriate feedback for this seller. However, when I checked the feedback he had posted for the ones who had left any comments other than positive they were obviously retaliatory and some were pretty nasty. So far, I have a 100% Feedback rating, and I'd like to keep it that way. Has anyone else here had a similar situation? If so, what did you do?

Here's what you do- leave negative feedback... if he retaliates, leave a response that says something like: "Not true- see http://yoursite.com/page.html"... ebay doesn't allow links in feedback... tell a board member to report you, and they'll remove the entire feedback and give you a meaningless warning.

  • hey jermey, that sounds like a great idea, have you ever tried it? do you know if it really works?
  • Leave the negative feedback. Warn others about the seller. That's the right thing to do in my opinion. Yes, he might get back at you by making negative comments, but you'll know that you didn't allow yourself to be intimidated by his unethical tactics.
  • Neg him! If he negs back, so what? When I see a neg on somebody, I can usually do a bit of investigation and find out if it's a valid neg or a retaliatory neg. Seasoned ebayers know how to tell the difference.

  • I do believe that is what happens if you put a link in your response to a feedback against you.....ebay will remove the entire feedback! They won't TELL you this, of course! Anyway, i read somewhere else where someone got frustrated in dealing with ebay directly about getting an obvious retaliatory feedback removed.....no luck, of course. In desperation (with frustration) she decided to let the ebay public get more details of her situation.....and put a link in to her site.

WHOOSH.......out came the Neg., and everything else too! But at least she got the neg out!

  • I had left NEUTRAL feedback for a seller who shipped my coins to the wrong person. He in return left negative feedback for me and then started sending nasty e-mails to me. I finally just blocked his e-mails and moved on...........Ken

Slow down you move too fast ...

First thing I would do is to contact the seller and explain why you are unhappy (be nice, just state the facts) and ask if he can suggest a solution (or ask to return the item regardless of his all sales final note).

Then, based on his response, you will know what to do. (Of course at this point you are probably under a time pressure and yes I would leave a negative if you are not satisfied)

Since others have already given him negative feedback I wouldn't bother. I've never received a neg and wouldn't want to. Just for the record if I knew this was a bad guy and no one had given him negative feedback I would.
  • It's hard to determine what you should do with so little info on the deal. First of all...how much was the coin? If we are talking about a few bucks, it's not worth the trouble. When you bid, did you know his return policy? Was there a picture showing the problem? You said the previous feedback was "decent", but was the seller's feedback good for selling or buying? Without a link to the auction, there is no way to determine what you should have expected from the transaction. Was this a good seller turned bad, or a shot in the dark that didn't pan out?

neg him, no question. respond to your neg with one simple word - "Retaliatory". no one checking your feedback will give it a second thought.

I agree with the others here Try to work it out within the time you have. If not satisfied then neg him. I too check to see if negs are retaliatory when viewing feedback. If someone's only negs are retaliatory it shows me that they are a good ebay'r and willing to take a neg to expose a bad ebay'r.

  • I have another idea, I believe ebay allows you to leave feedbacks for 90 days after the auction, what if you waited 90 days, and on the 90th day, left him a neg. feedback, and by the time he sees it, he wouldn't have enough time left to leave you one.
