Coin Photography Question

As far as scanning coins go, does it matter if my scanner is 600x1200 or 1200x2400 for resolution? Is the 600x1200 good enough? I plan to have bid blow ups of coin pics, so I will need good detail in the photos.

    Is the 1200x2400 optical or interpolated? If it is optical, then you will get better pictures scanning at that res. and downsizing the image... if it is interpolated, then 600x1200 will surely be fine, and you shouldn't worry about the 1200x2400.
