I'll be you think this is an April Fool's joke. It's not!

The slot machine tray full of them when I hit the jackpot in Nevada.
That was a long time ago.
Now they only use in-house tokens.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

Do you know who owns "the" coin and any idea of its' value?

When you win, the coins fell in the tray. When you lost nothing happened.

    Oh,

The coin pictured in the original post?
    Never mind.

Wonderful "modern" pattern and I think it's owned by Mitch.

Is this the no mint mark one that was once in Gerald Ford's hands?

There is a one page article by Tom Delorey in "The Authoritative Reference on Eisenhower Dollars" by John Wexler, Bill Crawford and Kevin Flynn. The Ike pictured though is one of the more "common" T1 with no mintmark proofs. The one imaged in this thread is the "one of a kind?" T2 he discusses.. Am I right that it is the only one known? Anyone know where it is?
  • misterRmisterR Posts: 2,305 ✭✭
Wondercoin, the one you obtained for your customer, was it a T1 or a T2 reverse?
  • MrEurekaMrEureka Posts: 24,332 ✭✭✭✭✭
As far as I know, the T2 pattern is unique. It was supposedly "discovered" in a cash register in DC back. I don't know anything about a Gerald Ford connection, but maybe the Crank can fill us in. It first appeared in a Devonshire auction about 20 years ago. Martin Paul and I bought it for about 5K, held it for a while, and then sold it - flame me if you will - to Alan Hager. He held it for years, resold it to Martin, and Martin sold it at a B&M sale last year for about 42K. Mitch, you bought it? Great coin and great value!

BTW, I've never seen the Type one coins of any denomination, but I'm sure they exist.

One more little bit of trivia. When the Mint sent out promotional materials for the three piece 1976 silver proof sets, the coins pictured in the brochure did not have mintmarks. They illustrated the brochure with the patterns!

"Mitch, you bought it? Great coin and great value!"

Andy: Yes I did - out of the Bowers sale of course. Were you the underbidder?

I would sure like to match it up with the quarter and half image Wondercoin

I saw a collection, years ago, that had been stored in the little hinged snap-lock with cardboard inserts things. You know, like you can get at the bookstore. Anyway, they were beautifully toned, very reminiscent of Wayte Raymond toning.
