Interested in New Orleans gold coins?

Doug Winter just posted an article on the topic on his website, updating the information from his previous book (1992). It kinda gets me more excited about the "O" gold coins again. Anyone have an 1879-O to post to get me drooling?

A good follow up article to a great book. New Orleans gold, with the exception of a handful of true rarities, still remains under appreciated. I am somewhat surprised the author did not reference the 1850-O eagle, which is still somewhat under appreciated in AU50+. True originals are getting harder to locate.

Frankly (no pun intended for Frank!), I would like to see more articles of this kind posted on the message boards. It would be nice to learn about other series....

Agreed. There are some boardmembers that I think have done a great job of posting good threads... FC57coins started an excellent thread not too long ago about toned Morgans that was well received. Mr. Winter probably knows as much about New Orleans gold as anyone and his most recent article is a welcome update.

To RYK - here's a link to the 1879-O that recently sold at the Bower's sale. Fetched a pretty good price, especially considering it's far from the most attractive coin in the world.
