Home PCGS Set Registry Forum

BJ... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems we are (again) at an impasse regarding selling coins on this Forum. Selling coins has been discussed/argued many times in the past. The most recent, last December, seemed to allow selling to take place.

Would you please;

1. Post something permitting PCGS coins to be listed for sale here. (Registry Quality Coins should include "all" PCGS coins, IMO.)

2. Take a vote, allowing Forum members to decide what, if any, coins are allowed to be offered for sale.

3. Create a policy disallowing the sale of any coins on this Forum.

What ever the decission, please make it BLACK AND WHITE! Remove all grey areas, so this doesn't have to be addressed at the end of the 2nd quarter 2003.

Thank you,

Dan

Dan: The vote just occurred a couple days ago - last I looked the majority has once again spoken. The poll is still on the front page image Wondercoin

Dan is asking for official clarification. It appears he has given three possible solutions, but is asking that the position is officially stated.

    Why is this so wrong?

I did see that. But, it appears if it's done by BJ or someone connected with PCGS/CU then it carries more weight. I'm concerned this is going to pop up every few months, like it has over the past couple of years unless it's put to rest by a once-and-for-all decission made by someone other than Forum members. Having said that, perhaps BJ can take the vote as a mojority rules decission and make it policy.

Perhaps I'm going a little overboard. If so, please ignore me image

    Good idea Dan - thanks.

Mitch - the results of the "vote" were/are unclear and vague, in my opinion, at least. I don't know if all coins are supposedly ok to post, what "registry" quality is, etc.

Also, I am not convinced that forum members can merely take a vote and have the results dictate the rules around here. I want to hear it from an administrator, not those who wish to post coins for sale, or (to be fair) even those who are opposed to it.

The last poll with a majority for "yes" was the issue of listing NGC coins with "Registry" grades. image

I love these threads.image Very high grade PCGS coins(high grade for the series) , or other slabbed coins of ultra rarity should be listed here.

The poll about NGC coins was started by a CU employee, so it would obviously carry much less weight than a poll started by someone who wanted to sell on this forum, but has no ties to CU.

The last time this issue was brought up (several months ago), the overwhelming majority felt that it was fine to list coins for sale on this forum and that no monitoring was needed. This is the set registry forum, so it would seem logical that the coins being offered here should be coins suited for the set registry. I think members who post here are very good about sending someone who is listing inappropriate material for the set registry to the BST forum.

If you all feel that tighter controls are needed, then please let me know.

YOU ARE RIGHT ON!! There does not need to be any more RULES or MONITERS We have enough FLAMETHROWERS to take care of this ourselves. We would all miss the WONDERCOIN vs DBLDIE55 exchanges that seem to occupy a lot of the forum lately. image

Absolutely not BJ, It seems that things are still working fine..... Not everyone agrees, but the majority by a large margin sure agrees that it isn't a big deal and should happen......

    Just sent a PM.....

Here is our chance for those that say keep on listing Killer coins here..... As was said in the old thread, BJ had only received complaints rather then support. And i'm sure shes received some complaints again about it....... Not from me she hasn't....

    More Registry selling for me!

I have about 200 threads of PCGS coins ready to go. I guess the OK has been given.

BJ, if someone intentionaly abuses this, deal with the person rather then the policy, no reason we should lose out because of the immature acctions of someone.

    Define abuse, please.

If every dealer lists their PCGS coins as much as some already do, this will simply turn into another BST forum. That may be fine and dandy........shrug.

Some limit should be set - either a limit on active 'selling threads' per poster OR lock a thread at the top in which to post Registry quality coins for sale.

Lucy, you are in the group that does not want a black and white policy. I can do what ever is within the rules as they are written. If you do not like it, have the rules clarified. If you do not want the rules clarified, then deal with the results. In order to show a point, sometimes you have to go overboard so far that even the blind can see it.

I do like the current policy and I dont have to make immauture threats that I am going to do this or I am going to do that since I didn't get my way....... Bj stated the policy again. Accept it and move on, the healing process will begin sooner for you that way. The fact is you are the one that can't deal with it.

    Good ideas.....

Abuse would be someone intentionally trolling the forum with 200 threads of coins for sale..

I agree that we would know gross abuse if we saw it.... but how about that fine line between abuse and non abuse. Obviously 200 threads is abuse. Is 50? 20? 10?

If every dealer put up just 10 threads of coins for sale, it would drown out the rest of the threads. What might seem reasonable individually would result in collective abuse.

Good questions TradeDollar... I don't know..... has anyone ever even had 5 threads at one time on the 1st page of this forum with coins for sale.... It seems to me that one could simply edit their original thread and change the title and add different coins....

I don't know why we can't have another 100-post thread on this subject every three months or so.

What ELSE do we have to talk about? image

I guess the argument bank was overdrawn, so it was necessary to debate nothing.

The HepKitty has it right. This is just more of the same old argument. There have been no major problems with this, other than the usual questions from someone new. Then the desire for specificity of what is a general policy gets everyone going again. Things have been fine lately, leave well enough alone on this. Let's get back to coins for a change.

Fact: Things are fine now because Wondercoin is the only dealer posting coins for sale with any regularity. Now that it is abundantly clear that it is allowed, it will become an issue to be addressed in the very near future as every dealer posts their wares and drives discussion threads off the front page.

Fact: This policy has been in place since the inception of this forum and the claims of Tradedollar have yet to be the case.

TDN: I thought guys like Morris and Datentype (to name just a few) were dealers too? I didn't realize I was the "only dealer" posting offerings here? No biggie though image

May not be a problem at all .... we shall see.

  • TDN: Wondercoin has posted more TOP POP Registry coins on this forum than most people own. I Know he sells many many high grade coins that never see the light of day as individuals contact him with a want list. If anyone wants to post POP TOP Registry coins on this forum thats what its here for. The BST forum has the junk, ebay auctions, and a ratio of about 5 to 1 posts. It has become a tradition of having this discussion every 3 months or so. Wondercoin vs Dbldie55 I tune in each day for the latest episode image

The policy has been "in effect forever". Lately, there are more dealers, not dealing, but posting. This is great, terrific, invaluable...!!!
Dealers have put "their best foot forward" by offering educational material, as well as, available coins. This is what the Reg. forum is all about. We, I think agree, that stuff for sale offers not only the particular coin for a single buyer, but a general education for the rest of the market, as well. I think this is good.
