Just got an e-Mail about an eBay Power Seller's death!

I have been waiting for a coin to be delivered from this seller & suddenly I get an e-mail indicating that he died a few days after the auction. The person e-mailing states he is the executor of his will & is trying to complete the 70+ transactions that are pending. While this is very sad news, I am at the same time wondering if it's some sort of scam. (Sad that we live in times when we always have to watch our backs). All auction info & payment info is being requested, but before I send all this info I wanted to check with anyone here to see if they had any knowledge of this tragic news being true.

Name: Mark Flory ****(His name is given on the "ME" page so I didn't see a problem posting it here).

Edited to say that due to the circumstances, I'm apprehensive to attempt a phone call to the seller as I'm afraid to bother anyone. I just figured someone here may be able to simply verify the story.

I got the same E-Mail but received my coin about 2 weeks ago. I don't think it's a scam.

When did your auction end? Has he posted new auctions since his death?

Forgive my ignorance, but, I would think eBay admin should be able to assist in verifying. Really, it is an unusual circumstance and one may not have enough info to verify it on their own.

Mine ended 2 days before the date of death & the last auction he listed started the day before he died & is still going.

I received the same email and have no reason to doubt it. The person who wrote to me did not ask for any information which could cause me problems, as far as I'm concerned.

I had corresponded with the seller on the 24th of March, asking about shipment of my coin. He indicated at that time, that he had been feeling very badly and was going to ship my coin on the 25th. I have not received it, but at least I now know why. I didn't know the seller but this is sad and disturbing news.

I did some business with him a couple of months ago and seem to recall him having some medical problems or illness.

I also received the notice today. I bought a toned peace from him that I have not received yet. I was getting worried because emails were not being answered. I emailed this person my info and I will either get a refund or the coin.

sad.....sidebar folks you should always have a plan to deal with your holdings not just coins in the face of death.....we all life on borrowed time on earth....

Just an update to those that have purchased and paid for auctions from this seller. I paid with paypal and did not received a coin or a refund after I was promised. It seems now this person that stated he would be handling the sellers ebay stuff no longer wants to do anything and we are now out our money. Today I asked where the coin was and received this email:

Be it known to all concerned parties that John P. McCarty is not, and has never been, associated with Mark Todd Flory's many business activities. John P. McCarty has never invested in nor derived profit from Mark Todd Flory's business activities. Any communication, verbal or written, heretofore tendered by John P. McCarty shall not be construed, in any form, to establish John P. McCarty's assumption of or responsibility for Mark Todd Flory's debts, public or private, or for completion and/or resolution of Mark Todd Flory's eBay business activities, past or present.

Further, be it known, Mark Todd Flory's Last Will and Testament (wherein John P. McCarty is named Executor) has not be filed nor will be filed.

This e-mail is notice to all concerned parties that John P. McCarty, under advise of legal council, will no longer respond to inquiries concerning Mark Todd Flory's eBay transactions, past or present.

Concerned parties should contact the Texas Department of Health — Bureau of Vital Statistics, Dallas, Texas to verify Mr. Flory's death.

credit cards will do a charge back....if paid cash via paypal forget it

under probate law, and the time limit varies from state to state but is never less than 30 days to the best of my knowledge, you can file a claim against the estate of the decedent with the clerk of the court in the county were the decedent was domiciled (were the estate will be probated).

suggest you check out the vitals on this seller and as to the veracity of the claims in the emails. get your claim letters to the clerk of the court - a.s.a.p.! what ever course of action you choose, do it promptly! btw, it could possibly be that this mccarty guy will not be the executor (personal representative) for the estate.
