Suggestion on Registry

PCGS: I recently started a new registry set. Since I wanted to remain anonymous, I selected, "Do not display my email address." Everything went fine until a added some coins to the set. I updated and validated the set and, even though I hadn't changed any of the settings, my email address was now being displayed. The problem is that the registry's default is to display the email address even though the user selects not to display it in the previous edit. The default should be whatever the user had previously selected.

Edit to clarify: Johnny starts a registry set and wants to remain anonymous. Johnny adds his coins and selects "do not display my email address." Sometime later, Johnny adds some coins. When validating, Johnny thinks that he shouldn't have to read over all of the other settings since he hasn't changed any of them. Johnny validates and his cover is blown.

While I will agree that this happens, it doesn't always happen (may occur once after the initial setup and then your settings don't change). (May need the extra strength Raid for this bug.)

I also noticed that the "view all registrant's sets" button switches ("defaults"?) to "off" each time there is an update.
My suggestion is to double-check all those buttons at the bottom each time, before validating.
  • RegistryCoin, your suggestion is a great suggestion that would solve the problem. However, in this world of automation, why do it? If PCGS had coded the software properly, a user wouldn't have to double check all of the settings even though he/she is not changing them.

It's a good thing I just happened to be in the forum today otherwise this would have gone right by unnoticed. Please, please, please... email me directly anytime you experience a software problem so I can get it fixed.

Once you select that you don't want your email to show, you should never have to worry about it again. I'll address this issue with our IS department today.

Why do it? Because we're just the lab rats in the long-term development of the world-wide web. Good suggestions, like yours, will make things better, but in the meantime as things get better, we just have to be very alert. image
