Check out this sloppy altered SLQ

Someone posted this eBay auction over on RCC. Since it is so obviously altered from a 28-S, I am really surprised that so many people have bid it up. And you know what "estate" means, the eBay buzzword for "no returns".

Looks mighty suspicious ... but then, I am not generally a fan of whizzed, tooled coins.image

Hey- I'd like to know where to get a pack of stick-on mintmarks! D'you suppose they make 'em in bronze, too? A little "S" would really dress up some 1909-VDB cents, not mention a 1909 Indian or two. Hope they come with good adhesive, though. It would be embarrassing to have your "S" fall off inside a 2 X 2 or flip...

Yep, I saw that one also, and let the seller know he's selling a fake. I've bought from him before, and thought he was OK. I said he should cancel his auction..we'll see what happens....

That coin has a recessed date, and they didn't start using the recessed date until 1925.

That's so sloppy you can see it a mile away. I wonder if the bidders actually looked at the picture.

Why bother with the stick on mint mark when he could have just started from a 28-S instead??!!
