What is Mitch's JUDD-1690 PCGS-PR67CAM worth?

dbldie55dbldie55 Posts: 7,733 ✭✭✭✭✭
For those of you who do not know, this is the "Exact type of 1883" Liberty Nickel pattern coin. (It isn't exact, what is different?)

I really don't care. I would rather discuss what Saddam's J-1690 is worth or Hiltler's J-1690 is worth before I discuss joe ego's coin. But since it seems I cannot post a thread on this forum without the self imposed master asking stupid questions so I suppose I should ask it.

For me, I would not pay a cent. Not because of the coin (which I could only dream of owning) but because I would rather quit collecting than own a coin from some elitest.

My comment on J-1690 relates simply to what I believe to be your repeated meaningless, meanspirited and worthless remarks on this registry forum spanning much of the time you have graced us with your presence. You may or may not have any idea what a pattern nickel is worth (your supposed specialty area), but, always seem to know EVERYTHING about the modern coins you attack and criticize. Many, many people are tired of it. Your meanspiritedness shows clearly in this post. I will not dignify it with further remarks. image

The die combination for this pattern coin represents the without "Cents" issue. Although it is called the "Exact type of 1883", the obverse star pattern is arranged differently, making it slightly different.

Also the coin is dated 1882.

  • Well, I don't know much about patterns, but proof coins are ugly in my opinion, and I wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole, but it is probably legal tender, so I'll say it's worth five cents.

Well...since its the "exact type of 1883" (N/C) I would say a good starting point would Bluesheet. image

dbldie55...I wasn't aware that you were the flame war type. If you have a legitimate concern about "joe ego" there are two routes to take IMO:

    1. If you don't care for him leave him alone and DON'T TRY TO DRAG OTHER BOARD MEMBERS INTO YOUR EGO CLASH.

    2. If there is a friendship or business relationship that should be maintained sit back and have however many cold brews you need to relax and unwind and then pick up the phone and work things out between the two of you.

If you think I am out of line in telling you what I think you should do...then KEEP YOUR ISSUES OUT OF MY FACE and I will not offer you any advice.

As for egos in this hobby...every one of us (meaning established collectors) needs to have a well defined belief that they can think for themselves when it comes to the areas of our specialty. I don't always like other peoples' egos...but I have quite an ego myself so I try to let that knowledge temper my responses to other collectors.

Yeah, sorry Ryan! I didn't mean to steal your thunder. I guess you get the prize. image

I noticed you gave the answer, after I had already replied. I just kind of zipped through the repies before I posted mine. image

No problem... I'd still choose you to answer any question re: any 2 cent, 3 cent or 5 cent pieces!

    hey all

i saw one of these patterns in a dealer showcase at the Kent, Ohio show about 3 weeks ago. it was in a PCGS PR65 holder if i'm not mistaken and for all intents and purposes was a Lib nickel N/C dated 1882. that's what caught my eye. i had to do the double take!!! i believe he told me there were only about 75 minted and his asking price was $400.

if it's a pattern that anyone has interest in, give a PM and perhaps i can bring you together with the owner. he is a regular at most northeast Ohio shows.
