Will PCGS dip a coin

Just wondering if they will dip a coin before slabbing if asked? If so how do you go about asking for it to be done? How about NGC?

Only for a dealer. But NGC has NCS, their conservation people, who can take care of many problems on a coin (without altering the coin surface) and then send it to NGC for encapsulation. And if it doesn't encapsulate there, they'll slab it in an NCS holder.

My friend sent in a 1976 PCGS PR-67 half dollar that was as ugly as sin itself. PCGS called him and asked if they could dip it. He said sure. It is only a $3.00 and widely available. It came back in the same graded holder, but now looked like a very nice PR-67.

He is a very small time collector.

If PCGS will dip it, does the holder state that the coin was dipped or "conserved"? If it doesn't, what's the difference between me dipping a coin and selling it without reference to the dipping? Am I missing something here?

No they do not make a notation on the label

If they do it, they are "Professionals" and it has been curated and therefor market acceptable and not mentioned. If you do it it's been cleaned and worthy of a bodybag.
