Soo.. On ebay it's no longer against the law to add % based fee's now that they've taken over Paypal

Last summer I got NASTYGRAMS from ebay for saying that i was going to add 1% to orders to cover paypal fee's and had my auction squashed but now I see it ALL OVER on ebay and no one seems to mind?

I'm not sure Ebay would be biased now that they purchased Paypal. Regardless of who owns whom, the practice of directly surcharging sales for credit card purchases is illegal.

Technically, it is acceptable to offer a cash discount for cash payment on eBay, but it is not OK to charge a transaction fee. That is how some sellers work around the fee issue. They build the credit card/PayPal fee into the auction price, and if the buyer pays cash, the seller deducts the fee (2 - 3% usually). This practice is acceptable with eBay. Charging a fee on top of the auction price is not.
It is illegal in California and many other states to charge a fee for processing payments.
It is also againsts eBay "rules"
