Labels on coins

I just received a batch of coins with labels on the reverse. The labels had the sellers name and phone number. It was a royal pain removing them! Some took a little of the hologram with them. Some left gooey residue. This is BAD!!!
I also received a few with super thin labels on the top edge of the PCGS holder. These had the date and grade of the coin printed on them. I could identify the coin without removing it from the box. This is GOOD!!!!
I wouldn't mind getting a coin with the Rick Snow photoseal. It is tiny and talks to the coin rather than advertising the seller, IMO.

The residual sticker goo left over from removing the stickers can be removed easily and safely with WD-40. It works great and leaves no film nor will it hurt the plastic in any way. I've used this method for years.....try it!!
Hope this helps.

That is a pet peeve of mine also. My attitude is whoever put the sticker on should remove it, but dealers don't care.
I bought 20 coins once from DHRC and they used permenate labels. After spending an hour trying to get a few off (which you can't do completely) I called to complain and send the box back and they reholdered them - and it took 3 weeks to get them back.
GooGone works to remove sticker residue, but DELAER STICKERS SUCK

Its to bad that the Aholes that do this sort of thing aren't more considerate of the next owner, esp when it ruins the hologram. Its enough to pi$$ the pope off. Other things you might try are everclear grain alcohol, straight or diluted a bit with water or rubbing alcohol. Also you can let a wet bit of paper towel sit on the label on the slab. If you are a chemist and have access to hexane or petroleum ether this stuff works wonders at removing label glue and also cleaning up greasy smudged up slabs.
Looking for Nationals, Large VF to AU type, 1928 Gold, and WWII Emergency notes. Also a few nice Buffalo Nickels and Morgan Dollars.
