Did TBT buy SEGS??

Since others have asked with no answer yet, I thought it was fair to post a thread on the sale of SEGS to TBT. Does anybody know the status of the transaction? Who will be the graders?

Actually, I asked about the graders because I assume that Mr. Briggs wants "out" of the grading biz. I was wondering if TBT had his own graders or whatnot.

Now seriously...how many days could you go on grading Frankies (or any other single series for that matter) without going psycho. ???

Yes, Texas Bullion Traders is TBT. TBT announced a while back that it had negotiated to buy SEGS and/or the assets of SEGS and that the "new SEGS" would focus, in part, on grading toned coins and detection of AT.

Since the early announcement, not much has been stated. I was curious if the plan was becoming reality.

I believe when TBT said that, he said he was in negotiations to do it. Nothing was final yet. And I remember him mentioning his child's health as being a primary concern (as it should be). So I hope all's well with his youngin' and if he still likes SEGS, I'm sure it'll come to pass.

I've got a bunch of stuff in with SEGS right now. I'd be embarrassed if Bryan saw them!

Please: SEGS grade my "coins" before TBT's takes over...

Heck, after a few sessions at the ANA grading seminar (meaning times the class was taken) and some live experience, I think anyone would be qualified to grade a couple series well enough. I think it's a mistake to think that ordinary people can't be trained to grade well. To me, the difference between the professional and amateur is that the professional has broader experience and knows the variances and nuances of each coin series and is more consistent. Still, a person can learn with some training and experience to grade quite well for many coins.

    Agreed.

Sad. Have to agree with Braddick here. I was hoping TBT would start a service geared toward slabbing toned coins and weeding out the artificial ones. It seemed like a good idea.

Maybe, TBT might consider a proprietary slab for the coins it sells since most of them are toned in some very nice manner.

I sort of meant something like Rick Snow's photoseal. Or, otherwise stated, some indication (proprietary slab or sticker on third party slab) to the effect that you think the toning is real/not AT.
