The Mother of all PCGS toned MS Jeffersons...look!

SeattleSlammerSeattleSlammer Posts: 10,034 ✭✭✭✭✭
OH MY!

Picked this up recently and it's absolutely gorgeous in person. These pics do an amazing job of capturing the colors on the coin, though overall they're not quite as neon bright in person. Still very amazing.

I don't even like Jeffersons as a rule, but I couldn't pass this one up. Killer mint set toning.

I know there are many toned Jefferson lovers here, so I thought I'd share......

That humanity at large will ever be able to dispense with artificial paradises seems unlikely. Most men and women lead lives at the worst so painful, and at the best so monotonous, poor, and limited, that the urge to escape, the longing to transcend themselves, if only for a few moments, is and always has been one of the principal appetites of the soul.

The penny I have now and in the right lighting it does look just like the picture. I tried & tried & tried to take a picture of this penny with my camera and can not get it to turn out like the coin at all. I also asked the seller how he took pictures of his coins and I got an email back stating this "Unfortunately the way I have developed taking pictures of coins is not something I can share. "

Must be a very sophisticated process, huh. Overall very happy with his coins and hope to win lots more.

What is that on his nose? And is that a Charley Chaplin mustache? image Regardless, it's a very cool coin. Good find SS.

Lori, nice penny, too. I almost bid on that one. I was very happy with the accuracy of the pics for my nickel.

WWW, that spec on the nose appears to be a lovely bit of dirt/lint of some kind. Extra character! Really, I'm so used to looking at big Morgan dollars, this nickel seemed downright tiny when I got it. You have to admit, that's one hell of a picture that the seller made for such a small coin.

I bought both of these coins from Greattoning on eBay. These are his images. I did not get the reverse images for the 1942. It is a type 1.

This coin has telltale signs of coming out of an original mint set, but I have never seen as spectacular rim toning on a Jef mint set coin as this one. Congrats!
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

I made two ANACS MS65 1964 Jeff's that look exactly like this one. They were both in a 1964 mint set with a blue cardboard insert inside of a plastic snap-close container (probably had been in there for over 30 years). I'm sure the chemicals in the cardboard caused the toning over a very long period of time. Not sure who the manufacturer was. The same mint set also had some nice toning on the half's and dime's, but not as spectacular as the nickels.

  • Beary cool! Two claws up!

The background on the auction was a bit much more color information than my eye needed, though!
