the pattern set i see has had many owners in the last few short years and has been unprofessionally cleaned but still a neat set i do not know if the write up is better than the coins though i think the marketing/description write up shows the coins in not such a good light though
or maybe this was done to have full disclosure of a set that has many problems? and has seen better days?
well anyway it will be interesting to see the resluts of the final bid!
but i love the dafe 1868 is a really sexy and rare date for gem silver proof coins! especially so for the quarters
likewise the 1866 especially so for the halfdimes of 1866!
Wouldn't it be great to own a set like that? If I was buying patterns I'd prefer examples other than the regular dies in a different metal, but that set is really cool. Even includes the original case!
I just read recently that those old aluminum patterns didn't stay very nice for the most part. Those don't look too bad.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
"the pattern set i see has had many owners in the last few short years and has been unprofessionally cleaned but still a neat set"
Michael: Shed some light on something please. If the set was "unprofessionally cleaned", how could some of the coins have upgraded as many as 4 POINTS from the last time the set sold in 1997? How could MS62 go to MS66 and MANY coins upgrade a point or two? Now, I am asking seriously, as I don't get to carefully inspect the set until Friday, but, "on paper" upwards of 4 point moves generally do not occur from "unprofessional" cleaning. Wondercoin

For some life lasts a short while, but the memories it holds last forever.
