A Modern submission, what a waste of money!

I had the SACs at 67 and the Kennedys at 67 & 68, I quess the ones that I compared them to were overgraded! I cant say Ive looked at a lot of these. I pulled these from the 15 sets I bought from the Mint. #3014131 Zip 91710.

I should do better on my economy submissions!

I don't see where you did bad.

  • Two 67s is not my idea of good! The way I look at it, I overgraded every one! I had those 67s at 68!

  • The 67 Kennedys and the D Sacs aren't too terrible. I do feel for you though. I know what it is like when you peg a given coin at a grade and it comes in differently.

It has been hard to find D coins in great shape. I've been looking in vain for a 2002 D Kennedy in 67, and haven't seen one in my sets yet. What often brings down the grade on those (and the Sacs) is the coin-to-coin rub that just grazes and spider-webs the topmost surfaces just a teeny bit, only to be seen if you hold the coin almost at an 80 degree angle from your eye (well, maybe 75 degrees).

Sorry for the disappointment, but the grades seem to be good for what I've seen in my mint sets.
  • It seems to me that they are being tougher on the Ds, they look just as good as my Ps in 67 & 68!

A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."
  • wallstreetman, I appreciate your feelings on this. I sincerely do. I hope your next submission is closer to what you expect.
  • No sugar? You can say that again, this submission was sugar free!

I viewed 200 mint sets from last year, and I doubt if 2-3 of the D-Sacs were 66, maybe one was a 67, but I
haven't submitted the best one yet. The JFKs were rife with slide marks, although I did have a P that made 67, but there
may have been only one other that nice...mostly 65s at best....and what's with the dimples on mainly the 50c and 5c???

The D-Sacs also were universally on a polished planchet which has a different "sheen" to it, whereas the Phillys were more
    matte-like and much better quality.....

    Good luck!

wallstreetman, I have a similar story. Recently there was a fly in our house and he was pooping in our pepper dish. With the price of pepper, I just could not throw the pepper away. Therefore, I spent many painstaking hours to "separate the fly poop from the pepper". Kinda like consistently judging the difference between a 67 and a 68 Sacagawea.........one is perfect and the other one is, well, it's perfect too.
  • First I only bought 5 Sets, they were junk! I ordered 10 more thinking they couldnt be any worse, I hit the jackpot! I still think they are undergraded!

did this cost you $250??? even if they had all come back as ms-67, would it have been a good deal? ie, does the value of sacagaweenie dollars in ms67 make up for the cost of slabing?

    We just went through 2000 2003 Sacagaweas and only submitted 40 P and 40 D. We received only 2 D's in MS67 and 7 P's in MS67. I feel your pain.

The Alabama's we just got have the same problem. But I think this group will grade better than the Sacagaweas.

    Such is the submittial game.

I submitted hundreds of 2002 coins from 100 Mint sets that I purchased from the Mint. I made out very well.
6 MS69 coins, and over 100 MS68 coins. It is all the luck of the draw. If you get good Mint sets, you will get good
grades. If you don't, you won't. I don't think submitting moderns is a waste of money, but you are definitely gambling when
    you submit any coin. mdwoods
