Coin Market Trend Question

Is it just me, or do I smell a little cool market activity recently? I guess even coin dealers use eBay as a barometer of the market, and recently it doesn't seem too hot.

Of course, some of you will jump out and post a link to a few really hot and contested items on Ebay and elsewhere, but is the overall market still up?

Are you spending less on coins or more because what's happening in the Middle East?

Just curious,

If it's cool, toned, and classic, I'm buying and stay out of my way or I'll bury you. image

I think generic gold is obviously slower now that gold bullion has backed off. Type gold has likewise slowed a bit. Other than that, things seem as strong as they have been to me. PCGS submissions are pouring in, auction prices are at record levels, dealer inventories are very low, set building demand is super strong. Other than the gold issues I mentioned, I don't feel any slowdown at all.

  • I've noticed that too. These days it seems toned and slabbed stuff are the hottest ticket. But even that has cooled off a bit, no?

Maybe I am totally off, I've got another half dozen hobbies to take care of.image

Nice to see you lurking Mr Hall
  • So essentially you are saying recent global events have no effect on the coin market? (Well, ok you didn't say that, but you are saying market is strong regardless). Are people are hoarding coins because they no longer have faith in the stocks (when is the next Enron going to show up?), so they go for collectible art, cars, coins, and other stuff?

Maybe people are just hooked on coins and eBay and oblivious to other factors?? Maybe.... or maybe not.

    Still curious... yeah, whatever.

It's only a sellers market on the coins I'm buying, but the ones I sell are going for bargain prices.

So there has been no change in the trend

  • Thanks relayer. That sounds like a good and objective observation to me.

So overall still strong, with a few weaker spots. So things are not always black and white - as many would have you believe.

    My 1 cent,
