Lincoln Memorial Varieties

PCGS recently added the 1960-D Large/Small Date and the 1971 DDO. PCGS had stated before that varieties listed in the Red Book would be the varieties listed in their sets. Neither of these are listed in my 56th Edition, 2003 Red Book and I'm short on reference material out here. Can anyone point me to an online source for complete descriptions and preferably, photos of these Lincolns? While I question the validity of adding these and the few other very scarce varieties, I want to do my numismatic part by knowing what to look for!

Also, understand the 1982 issue and I think it has already been hashed to death hereimage Let's stay with the above two coins (or the other added varieties). Thanks! Dave

The 1971 DDO? Not the 1972?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • I believe both are in the Cherry Pickers guide. I've not seen any web pics, but conecaonline.org will have text descriptions.

If I remember right, the 1960-D is actually Small over Large and also a RPM now. The 0 is very thick because of the doubling. It's not especially rare, except in high MS. I found quite a few before I thought I had one that would get a grade from PCGS.

I've not seen a 1971 DDO. I'm guessing the doubling requires more than 5x for my eyes to see it.

Maybe coppercoins will jump in later today with some pics.

Thanks folks, I'll take a look over at coneca when I get home. I always go to coppercoins' place first but struck out there.

PS - Kranky, yes that is a 1971 DDO they have listed in the Memorial varieties now. And neither coin in the Red Book - go figure.

    Regards All, Dave
