More commmonly, early gold has been well-scrubbed to remove toning. Orange-gold coloration is often considered "original" and highly desirable as such.

    Can gold get beautiful rainbows?

Early gold is rarely "artificially toned", though, as mentioned, it is often cleaned. It is also often "altered" by adding substances to the surfaces to hide/cover up wear, cleaning and/or abrasions, etc.

Gold coins do not turn "rainbow colors" naturally. Occasionally you can find them with a bit of golden-orange and /or pink/rose coloration.
