Hey! Why doesnt the Sac...

have a reeded edge.

Dont you think it should?
Without the reeds a coin is more prone to slipping out of your hand.

The Sac. looks and feels just like an old Large Cent.

Ever wonder why there are not reeds along the edge...LIKE A NORMAL US DOLLAR COIN???????????

Why do I even bother mentioning Sacs,They dont circulate.image

the smooth edge (along with the golden color) is supposed to make it easy to tell it from a quarter.

the biggest complaint about the sba was people confused the coins, I never had the problem because i always look at coins!

The reeded edges were originally added to silver coins in an attempt to discourage the filing off, or shaving, of silver from the coin. Now that there's no more silver in the circulating coins, the reeded edges are there to help the visually impaired indentify which coin is which. image

At least it could have had an ornimental border like the SLQ.
It could have arrowheads and peacepipes or something.

It's not cost effective for the mint to do designed edges. Might eat into that large seignorage they get. image
  • I always thought they should have maybe made it octagonal (eight sided) that way the mint would have had a good chance to hype it's new, 'first time ever minted U.S.octagonal dollar coin'!

But it wouldn't have worked in all the vending machines that were geared for the SBA. I think they'd have more luck re-popularizing the half dollar. You'd still have dollar bills, and the half dollar would then be the more convenient coin. You wouldn't need more than a couple at a time. And from a human engineering perspective, it also works because it is larger in size -- implicitly speaking of its greater value.

    They should bring back all the odd denoms,1/2c , 2c ,3c ,20c.
It would be great for the Mint and would bring in many more collectors.
Ya,They would be horded and non-circulating and sold for a premium by the Mint just like the Saccy and SHQs.

    ...I found a 1971 Canadian? 1/2c in a Cent roll once.Didnt know 1/2 Cents were still in circulation?Its a very thin copper.

Aside from, of course, the Pan-Pac $50 image
