Well it certainly looks about like the 26D that I purchased. Based on what I see, especially the reverse rim area where luster seems to be lost and a couple of very small spots on her hair, AU58 was probably the grade. I see there is some Tone. Not a Body Bag I hope for Artifical Tone.

I'm terrible with grading by pictures so if this is way off base just Kick me in the Butt and tell me to get out of here.

Thanks to all, its PCGS AU-58

To mention firstly the photo does no justice to the coin. Its a lustrous w/peripheral ltly toned surfaces example that stumped me when I saw the grade of AU-58. However after a quick study I realized there is wear underneath all that beauty. I failed to pick that up and leartnt a lesson as I bought it RAW. I will admit I bought a number of months ago so I guess I can blame my newbeenessimage at that time.

Ken you hit it on the nail, inadvertently I believe, but you desrve no kick in the butt. BTW, when you posted your 26-D last week this example came to mind. Very similar situation.

Whoever said MS63 or 64, I don't blame you at all!

Those that mentioned AU grades, my hats of to you guys & gals, we're becoming class act Merc's here.

    Marc:

I truly do look at the Rim of a coin first. If I see any difference in color from the field right next to it a signal goes off in my head. This is what I saw on the reverse of this coin. Plus, just like the 26D, it appears to have the very slight wear spot on her hair. When I said slight that is exactly what it appears to be. May be Crap House luck but that is how I was taught and learned to grade coins. IMO PCGS does the same thing and a bunch of folks just do not pick up on some of these trivial small things that kicks a coin into circulated condition instead of Mint State.

Thanks for the Show and Tell.

According to a well known dealer No One can grade from a Scan or Photo. From now on Merc Folks do not put this type of thread up here. Just Forget It !

    Ken,

What happenned to you? Brainwashed? Of course you can't grade from a scan or photo but sure helps us all - you included to sharpen those skills image
Any dealer that pushes that line doesn't want to see the coin "he just sold one of us" on the threads being ripped apart.

    Something to think about!

Hey Marc I think you know which thread and dealer I am talking about. By the way, one of the dealers that responded to that thread got a coin back from me, the only one I have returned, the scan came no where close to what the coin actually looked like. Plus the thing was Hyped to the MAX. Turned out it was a piece of Poo.

Buyer Beware ! Opps thats for Ebay only......Yea Right. image

I suppose if some dealers want to get on these forums and screw with collectors then it is Time to start Screwing back. Do you feel that right at the Moment I'm a little Pissed at a certain faction of this hobby and how they state thier case to collectors.

    Good Morning Ken.

I hope you cooled off abit, I actually had a good laugh this morning......Piece of Poo .....I found that rather enlightening and a wonderful choice of words.

Yes I know what you mean, and thats just part of the saga. As long as everything is kept in perspective. Besides , I mentioned in another thread, comments and scans are only opinions. Everything else is fun.

    Lets just have fun image

    Thanks Al !
