    Relayer,

You may have gotten lucky. This seller's scans are often enhanced beyond belief so perhaps the coin looks nothing like it was depicted in the auction. Of course, even a solid black Morgan can be a pretty cool coin.

I was looking at that auction earlier today and wondering how the hell a coin could tone that way. Just one more pound of confusion piled on the ton or so already occupying my brain.

  • Relayer - I bought a coin from bondman and had a similar experience as described by Bryan.

I have bought one coin from bondman21 and can say they are GREATLY enhanced, you did yourself a favor.

heck check out my toned dollars, they are much better than his!

I'm probably more relieved than mad then I guess.

I bid on it a few days ago but looking at the picture now, I see the blue color has left the coin between 11:00 and 3:00 and creeped out on to the insert?

It would be a nice coin if it really looked like that.

The Ghosting of the stars and date though tell me it's real. He tweeks his scans (less now than a few weeks ago- he must have caught on he was loosing bids because of it) but blue is blue is blue.
I don't know how much it could be tweeked and not be blue.

  • Ive had great success lately buying PCGS and NGC toned coins on Ebay and paying 130.00 or less. I never bid on that guy's auctions. Soon as I see that name I hit the stop button and go my way!image

    Braddick,

Is suspect the toning is natural....but I also suspect the coin may look different in person.....all based on experience. Long ago I bought a few coins from him and didn't even recognize the pieces when they arrived....they looked NOTHING like the scans.

This one could be almost black, which as I say, can still be a cool looking coin.

One thing I've noticed about BondMan (and to be objective: I've not purchased a coin through him) and in reading his auctions is, although the coins (mostly Morgans, right?) are super enhanced, usually his coin descriptions and especially his auction Banners, are somewhat accurate.
He's screaming "blue, blue, blue..." on this one.
Somehow, if the coin is black I don't even think he'd have the balls to misrepresent the coin so blantantly. Could be wrong- could be right.

  • I see where you can see the ghoting, but the ghosting is absolutely white, slightly odd...

It is interesting that just now I saw this post. I brought back 18 of the 19 toned Morgans I took to Charlotte with me. While dealers were asking premiums for toned coins, they sure weren't paying them. I have a NGC MS64 1901-O with a virtually total blue reverse. If that sounds like something you would be interested in, PM me. And I will sell it for about a quarter of what that one did with an enhanced scan.

It appears that it is but the fact that the slab has all but disappeared from the picture, would lead me to believe the scan was tweeked and by quite a bit.

Don't forget - second bidder sets the price at one increment over his/her bid.image

If you had waited to snipe the auction at the last second the winner's snipe might have been based on the next bid, and you might have won. image Then again, maybe he bid his own true max, and since it was over your bid it won by one increment.image

Were you willing to pay moreimage If not, you were beaten fair and square by someone who wanted it more.image If so, you should have bid your max!image

If you still want a blue morgan here is one it's a little more than $500 but it's also a 65 instead of a 64. I'm pretty sure this coin will look like the auction photos because the seller has great photography skills.

I got an email from the seller that the coin has been returned and is once again available for sale image

Methinks the coin doesn't quite look like the picture

  • you were lucky. An ms64 for $500 is not a good deal, period. I have lot of PCGS 65's nicer that no dealer has been willing to pay anything
for. I could make coins like that all night if I wanted. I don't.

Now why does that not surprise me!!

This coin has actually been sold and returned and relisted at least three times so far and I suspect you may see it again in the near future. I believe it is much darker than the already dark scan you see. It's a real shame that he keeps trying to enhance his pics. image
  • I notice he now says in his payment instructions that all raw coin sales are final....dumb
