Andy Madec Auction closes - High Prices

I was outbid on all of my lots last night, but the cards were looking good. I'd like to hear from the high bidders about what they thought of the auction. The 1959 Topps PSA 9 common cards were looking good (they uniformly brought over $300). I saw that some of the star cards did not do as well (1959 Frank Robinson $525), but they all looked GREAT to me.

  • There was a 1963 Parkhurst PSA 9 Gordie Howe that i was interested in that sold for 1685 + 10%. The last 2 that have sold on ebay in the past year have sold for $1050. & $860. Peter Lalos does have one in stock(for at least 2 months) for $1250.00. So that card went extremely high in my opinion

    I won a 1968 Banks PSA 9 for 240.00. I thought this was a good price.

  • I bid on a 1974 psa 10 Willie McCovey but was outbid. It sold for $847 including the buyers premium. The last one on ebay sold for $650. It appears that Andy did a good job with his auction.

  • Not andy's auction but ebay last night the gator thought he was going to make
a steal on a 59 sparky anderson psa 9 and centered looked like a blazer..Lost out
at 277.00. Boy if I had to do it again I would have been in the mid 300's. What a
bummer for I've been starting to pick at 59 commons and this would have been
    my first decent card.

    Yzerman19C-

$1685 +10%??? Really??? That's amazing! I too follow Howe cards and that's quite a showing for that card. I also saw those ebay prices you described and was disappointed (as I own one). Was Madec's a really nice example or is there some new Howemania going on?

Actually, now having looked at the auction, the Howe is pretty nice. It's almost perfectly centered, so it's about as good as it gets for that card which may account for the premium. The borders seem to have a little toning, but not as bad as some from that set so that helps too. I don't remember the what the ebay 9s looked like but I can't imagine they were THAT inferior compared to this one. The again, Madec deals with people who have money to spend on cards like thi$ so maybe that helped too.

On the other hand, $3540 ($3894 all together) for the PSA 9 '53 Bowman Pee Wee Reese seems low. Seems I remember a 9 getting well over $5000 a while back. (Then again, PSA 10 Jordans were getting $30,000 a while back.)

    Others-
$630 ($693) for a '79 Topps PSA 10 Rose Record Breaker? Is that good, '79 collectors?
    $390 ($429) for a '77 Topps CLOTH PSA 10 Schmidt.
$1641 ($1805) for a '71 OPC PSA 9 Marcel Dionne rookie. Surprised me.

The rest can be viewed here.
