First Rainbow Morgan...in my new collection

Hopefully this scan will at least do the coin 1/2 justice. It does not show the blues as well as I would have liked it to.

I have tried to photograph some coins...but have not had much luck with that (at least so far). This is a scan...

I used to have a nice coin collection...it contained one Morgan Dollar that had a beautiful rainbow tone to it. Unfortunately I was not able to keep my coins.

I have started collecting again...as of about four months ago. I have a lot of nice Morgans now...and look forward to putting together a complete collection.

Anyway...sorry about the pop-ups on the Tripod pages...I need to get my own web-site that does not have advertising.

Enjoy the picture...and let me know if you think the scan turned out ok.
I used Paint-Show Pro to crop the photo. I am trying to learn how to contrast it a bit better to bring out more detail? Any suggestions are welcome!

I found this forum about four months ago...and really enjoy reading all the posts. image

Not sure how to actually post the photo in the forum...or if that is possible.

Sheeeeesh, that toned 1884-O used to be mine, I remember it exactly. I bought it raw in a flip at a show for 125.00 about 18 months ago. I thought the coin was a strong 64/weak 65. I submitted the coin to PCGS and it came back a 65. I later sold the coin to a board member and then subsequently saw the coin offered for sale through Caspercoin on Ebay in a 66(!) holder. It was listed as a PQ(!!!) 66 which I thought was rather humerous as I though it was already generously graded as a 65. It's a nice piece, kinda sorry I sold it.

    Thanks for posting the picture.

It was given to me by a friend...I am not sure who he bought it from. It was a few months ago.

It does look a lot better in person image As always seems to be the case...I am really hoping to learn how to scan or take pictures of these coins.

I am waiting on this Morgan image 1878 CC MS66 PCGS

The sales pitch on this one...

Quote "This is without a doubt the most awe inspiring 1878-CC dollar that I’ve ever had the privilege of offering for sale. To begin with it is in an uncommonly lofty state of preservation with only NINETY-FOUR specimens having been certified MS66 by PCGS and just TWO graded higher. The strike is absolutely full with all details boldly articulated. The glowing satin surfaces are supremely clean and rest comfortably at the upper end of the grade designation. Having said all that, the magnificent original toning is the icing on the cake. The obverse is a harmonious blend of vibrant iridescence consisting of bright gold, warm amber, hot pink, lilac, teal and emerald hues. The reverse is evenly bathed in champagne rose patina with a dazzling arc of luminescent blue and gold toning. An altogether stunning example of the first Morgan Dollar struck at the historic Carson City Mint and one, which I would wager, is virtually irreplaceable at any price!" End Quote

JoshL- That '78-CC is truly spectacular. You should be quite proud. I'm sure the price was 100% full.
    Congratulations! image

Cool site...the 1878-CC I've seen "in person" and it's a beautiful coin. Mike DeFalco owned it and I almost bought it. I know he sold it but to who I don't know. If you get it it's a top notch coin to own.

I have not seen it yet...but I am excited image It looks to be one of the most beautiful rainbow Morgans...I could possibly hope to own.

I look forward to building a nice collection of Morgans. Am really excited to also start building up a collection of deep cameo kennedy halves.

I ordered one from Heritage last night...it will be my first. Not sure how long it will take to receive it.

You could not have picked a better coin. I wish I had bought this one when I had the chance. But, at the time I was short of the funds needed...it's not an inexpensive coin. But well worth every penny. My complements to you for your good taste.

    Josh-

That CC Morgan is great. I was buiding a Morgan Rainbow Mintmark Collection but it's become a lower priority. I need a 21-D and a CC.

You should register yours and build a Rainbow Mintmark Set - and put up pictures!

Well I stand corrected...and must correct my comments on the 78CC coin. I was under the impression that the coin in question was on its way to my hands...however there obviously has been a misunderstanding on my part because another forum member purchased that coin a few months ago.

I have a friend that purchases rainbow Morgans for me from time to time...and I was under the impression that that particular coin was one that had been purchased.

So I need to correct myself...I believe the coin actually belongs to Toningintheblood.

    Happy Collecting!

    JoshL;
Regardless, it's a great looking coin. I still kick myself when I think that I could have owned it. I'm sure you'll find another. There's always another coin.
