1969 Mother Load of Stars in 9 on Ebay

Well all you 1969'ers, Mintxpress has the finest group of 1969 stars in 9 all up for auction. They all end at the same time which might be a mistake. There's 5 I really want, can you guess which ones?

  • Bob,

The lot is quite remarkable. It is obvious that someone worked hard in finding very nice examples of each card. This is more than merely an assortment of "PSA 9"s. They have managed to nail a non-tilted Reggie Jackson rookie in PSA 9. In addition, the typical Mantle tilt appears minimal. The Nettles rookie is actually a "LOOP" variation, but appears to be weak for a 9. Nevertheless, the Aaron, Drysdale, Seaver and Carew have exceptional centering compared to "usual" PSA 9's of these cards. The appearance of the Don Sutton is significant; the last time I saw this particular card for sale was well over 3 years ago and it topped out over $150 at the time. The Willie Mays example is the strongest PSA 9 I have seen, but I still regard the SGC 96 1969 Willie Mays in Oregon as the best in the country. Lastly, I am not sure that I have seen a better Reggie Jackson rookie. The scan on e-Bay does not show the front lower right hand corner well, but the card is impressive assuming the corners are sharp.

    Ron-

I really enjoy your analysis of the 1969 issue. Even though I do not collect the set...I always learn something after reading your posts. I just wanted to let you know.

  • John,

In turn, I enjoyed your webpage! I attempted to make a website about a year ago, but I did not have enough time to devout to it. In any event, I hope to meet many new collectors in Atlantic City this summer. Hope you have the opportunity to attend. image

Thanks Ron...one afternoon I figured I would learn Frontpage to design a simple page as a tool to trade off some of my modern cards and fill some modern sets ( so that I can sell the sets and buy more 1965's image).

Not sure about Atlantic City this year..but I live in the Cleveland area so I will be a lock for the week next year.

In fact...I would love the chance to work with a dealer for a day at the Nationals in Cleveland next year.

I have to admit...its kind of my "dream job".

Wow! That's a pretty impressive offering of '69's. I wonder who was sitting on these cards all of this time?

An incredible lot indeed. Though not one to chase 9s, I do have my eye on a few. image

Whats the name of the horse. Maybe I will bet on them instead of bidding on the nines.

No snow on the andrews but I think it may be a seven.

Gaspipe - The amazing thing is you've probably handled every high grade 1969 out there at one time or another. Had you not sold them, you'd probably have a complete set at about 8.75 by now. I guess as long as your horses keep winning, you won't regret selling the cards off. Good luck at the races!

    Gemint,
Except for a Mays,Jackson,F.Robby, and the Sutton, I had them all in 9. I dont regret it. We now have 4 real good horses and there making money. (knock on wood). My horse finished 3rd tonight. Not bad for his 1st race back after a month of sick. He only got beat by 1/2 a length. Its a decent payday too in his class.

I'm not surprised about getting outbid. Its a POP 1. I think the centering top to bottom concerns me. I'm in Orlando on business til Friday. I'm trying to get to go look at the card plus others.
I have 2 going Saturday and 1 Monday. I need a win!!!!!! I want the Jackson.
  • Good Luck Bob, the Reggie Jackson rookie is fantastic in regards to its centering and eye appeal. Let us know how the corners look in real life.

  • i just hate that Mintexpress still does
not take Paypal! That would make them
so much more money (I think).
