Anyone know the entire history of PCGS Holders?

ms70ms70 Posts: 13,956 ✭✭✭✭✭
On another thread I was reading about "PCGS 8" and "PCGS 12" holders. I'm familiar with a few, but does anyone have the entire history and example pics? It would be really interesting to learn about all the different design types & label colors. This is the first time I ever heard them referred to with numbers. Looking forward to a quick education here!!!!

    Conder101,

Don't forget to check your pre-publication distribution list. image Or at least give me a heads up when it is becomes available; I want an autograph too. Hey, you and your work is as significant as all the others offering autographed copies. image

Count me in for an autographed copy as well!

Condor -- did you get your Registry Pin? I had a little problem with your zip. If you don't get it let me know I saved another in case yours got lost.

  • If memory serves, here is a holder timeline. I'm sure Im off by a hologram or two

Original holder no collar light blue matrix printed, the PCGS added a plastic collar around that, (when the counterfiet scandals occured) then they switched to light green label holder (thin letters, sounds like a variety image), then light green label thick letters, then dark green label holder, the bar codes, then holograms, then blue label. Oh wish I had a collection of the complete slab generation.

There are some dealers who even know the exact timlines of the changes to assist in the crack-out game.
