At least that is the opinion of Rep. Charles B. Rangel, D-N.Y.

Article and preposed design

Will it happen?

I wonder if this would be a real sized dollar, instead of another dinky wussie coin?

It'll be interesting to watch the debate on this one. The PC crowd will be completely befuddled.

I have my doubts about H.R. 1016 passing through. However, H.R. 589 (the commemorative version) might make it. image

Just as long as nobody has any illusions about a circulating dollar coin having any success without total withdrawal of the dollar note....

I'm a bit confused by the article. I can't determine if Rangel is proposing an MLK dollar with the same compostion of the Sac and intended to circulate, or, is he proposing the 3 coin commem the article mentions?

If he is just trying to replace the Sac, I don't know if I like the program. I would like to see an MLK coin be successful, not just another image replacement for the failed circulating small dollar(s).

The PC crowd will be completely befuddled.

.........and maybe they'll start to realize that actual persons should be restricted to a representation on commemerative coinage only. think of the battle lines being drawn between supporters of an image depicting a native american woman and those supporting the image of a black man. exploration of the american wilderness vs. exploration of the human souls wilderness. WOWZER!!!!

keep circulating coins for depictions of liberty, put commemerative coins to the purpose of honoring actual personalities. can it get any simpler or politically sound??

I agree with Keets. The "presidential" designs have been around too long anyway. We should put gold and sulver back in our circulating coins, too.
