Change in minimum policy

After a lot of input from our customers, we are changing the new minimum number of coins per order for modern and economy service from 10 to 5. We appreciate everyone's comments. Sorry we have to have minimums, but we just can't do the onesies and twosies or we'll never get these orders back to you.

The 5 coin minimum for economy and modern goes into effect 4-1-03.

Sounds terrific to me, as I am a small, only occasional submitter.

Glad you listened to customer comments to find common ground and find a compromise that works for both the company AND the customer. The common collectors thank you! image

imageI guess I'm glad you lowered it, but it is a business decision and ten isn't that tall of an order! Patience is a virtue, not a business decision. But if it makes " wee" collectors happy, that's what you have to do! I can't imagine being in such a hurry to make it less than ten on submission! Some coins have waited over a 100 years to get graded and slabbed!!image

  • Thanks David. The 5 coin minimum works much better for me.

  • Wow! Thank you very much. I typically submit 10-18 coins, but at times, I only need small submissions, so 5 will be great.

I am most appreciative of this!

Is the turn around time quicker for 5 coins or 50 coins ?

    Mr. Hall:

Many thanks for changing the minimum from 10 coins to 5. It makes a HUGE difference for me, and I do appreciate it.

    When in doubt, don't.
  • It is good that the small collector is being heard by pcgs. I think the move back to the 5 minimum will help maintain interest in the hobby for those, like myself, who are not full time professionals. Thank you.

Good for you, that's customer service.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

I thought I had made my last ecomony submission when the limit went to 10.

I think 5 is reasonable. Thanks

(now if I could just get my pending ones done - one had 4 and the other had 5)

  • Hehehe......Hi David, just seemed to me the reason the turnaround times were so long was because you were getting swamped with LARGE orders!

"onesies and twosies" would seemingly "fly" outta there!

Just a thought from a bench jewelry repairman who HATES getting job envelopes holding five, six, or seven different items. Seems like i spend a very long time on just this one job! (envelope).

    joejeweler,

I think the processing of all of the 1 & 2 coin submissons is what is taking so much time.

    homerunhall,

You keep that up and it's going to demonstrate that some people may have judged you too harshly, that you are more willing to listen to the collectors than you have been given credit for, or even more significantly - you ARE as interested in hobbyists as you are with the big hitters. Are you sure that is the image you want to present? image

BTW, I tried to email you twice at homerunhall@pcgs.com, but for some reason, the PCGS server was unable to forward them to you. Apparently, I don't have the correct email address; please clarify. You may have noticed, I don't email you with frivilous matters. One of those was a CC to alert you to the "expiration" of the secure server certificate. If that issue is resolved, I have some business to attend to. image

  • Thanks, it is easier to save the money for five instead of ten.
  • Hi Paul......somehow i find that hard to believe as large orders, by definition, take longer to process than small ones! Send in two coins and unpack....log in (must take much less time than say, 100 coins!)......send to graders possibly more familiar with that series (classic vs modern, say)...a few minutes graded and assigned a grade......off to print insert/holder........off to shipper. Done! Probably takes all of 20-30 minutes "actual" working time. (not counting time items might be sitting with no one doing anything with them).

Same order but with 100 coins..........a full days work or more perhaps!

Also, with a group of valuable classic coins costing, say, $5,000 to $10,000 each, ......shipping a single lot of 2 or 3 coins makes it hard to get it insured for full value even "Registered" mail. ($25,000 limit as i recall). I believe UPS has a $50,000 insurance limit. Either way a large order is more likely to surpass the insurable limit than a small one. I don't know how someone ships a super valuable coin with full value insurance.....unless they're self-insured with business insurance.

    joejeweler,

Imagine the same 100 coin order except this time from 100 different customers. Thats alot of paper work compared to 100 coins sent in on the same order. Pcgs even gives a discount for extra large submissons.

Of course that is just my opinion.

That proof Barber half is awesome!!
