Moving the PCGS barcode?

here was posted new coins that just got back from PCGS. The pic has the barcode on the back of the slab. Does anyone have new submissions back that can confirm the barcode has been moved again or is this an older picture?

Interesting. I'll have to do some checking but I do have one possibility. Originally classic and modern commems and bullion coins were all in the PCGS 7 slabs. Then in Mid 2001 the classic commems went over to the PCGS 8 holders. In Feb 20o2 the PCGS 12 holders came out and I said that they were used for both modern commem and bullion. Now the picture in the book is of a bullion piece. Maybe I jumped the gun. Maybe only the bullion went over to the PCGS 12 holders. Nope, that isn't it. Just did a search for 2002 West Point PCGS graded dollars on Ebay. They are all in PCGS 12 holders.

I can't explain it. There is no way that coin should be in a PCGS 7 holder unless they are keeping it just for the bi-met. But that doesn't make any sense either. I tried searching ebay for the LOC bi-met and all of them were in PCGS 7 holders, but it was also a stock photo and there was no way to know when it was submitted.

Sorry to disappoint but I verified with operations, the barcode has not been moved.

  • That LOC is not from that submission, as a quick check of the cert #'s around it show.

    Whoops-

Sorry, I used a stock photo. That picture was of one I used to own but sold. I'm making my own Modern Proof Set so I wanted one of these for my $10 piece.

I was trying to show the coin, but it was the holder that got the attention.

Anyway, I have the actual coin in hand now from that submission and as you can see, the barcode has safely returned to the front and the cert number has been safely entered into my registry set.image

kieferscoins: that was the last generation of PCGS slabs with the bar coding on the reverse right before they moved it to the front. It differs slightly from the previous blue insert which shows the bar coding also on the reverse but not as thick and also higher up on the reverse side. There is a PCGS 7 and 7A holder.

I previously forwarded all of this information to conder101 about a month or so ago.

  • Thanks everyone, including Carol for taking the time to check with the slabbers.

Dorkkarl, LOL that is funny !! They might as well print it on the coin, because having it on the front side of the slab is so UGLY and distracting !!! There isn't ANYONE out there who wouldn't rather have it on the back !!!!!

Get rid of the barcode !!!
