A "newbie" question about DNCs...

Folks,
Since almost everything I do is "slab once", I almost never cross coins. The couple I have crossed (a Millennium Sac, and a silver proof Delaware) were real obvious no-brainers and crossed exactly as I anticipated (MS67 and PR69DC, respectively).
Does PCGS crack out the coin if you try to cross it - and you get a raw coin back, or do they return the slab to you? If they crack it out, isn't it better to have it in a capsule than none at all?
Please forgive the unknowledgeable question. I don't think I've seen it discussed to date. I have a few Roosies I would like to cross.

BTW: They don't crack the slabs, but saw them to open them cleanly.
And only after it has been graded and will be holdered by PCGS.

That's a relief! I hadn't thought of that angle... Thanks to you both for the info.
