State Quarter experts - what do I do now? (fixed links)

Notice the missing mint mark. I removed this from a US Mint mixed bag (1999-2000).

    Pictures don't work!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • No pictures, but I would guess grease-filled dies. Put it in an air-tite and look for more.
  • just fixed links... sorry

  • Please educate me - how can I tell if it's a grease filled die? That certainly makes sense to me...the coin is pretty rough for an UNC, definely the roughest out of the bag. Is that one way to tell?

I own a book on coin errors, I will reread the section on grease filled dies. Thanks for the collective wisdom.

I just prefer to call missing letters a filled die. There's no way of telling what it was filled with. Should not be confused with struck thru grease, which affects a larger area of the coin and leaves a lackluster wavy surface.
Struck thru grease is caused by a glob of grease dropping out of the machinery onto the planchet or die.
Filled die is a build up of crud in the shallow design areas.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
