Set Registry Question

I started my 1976 Topps set with some commons I bought in PSA 7 for about a dollar each on Ebay. I plan to upgrade those but as of now I keep them listed on my set. My question is am I hurting my overall set rating by doing this? Would I be better off to keep those cards not listed? The only higher priced card I have in a 7 is Nolan Ryan. You can check out my set it is titled Nathan's 1976 Topps set (I had my creative juices flowing that day). Thanks Nathan

    I'm not sure how it affects your overall rating but I think it is much more impressive to have a higher percent of the set complete than average grade. Some people will have a set that is 2% done with an average grade of 10.0 and somebody else will have 23% done with an average grade of 7.93. I think the second one shows more of a set in progress rather than just a few really nice cards.

    It wouldn't hurt your set to list these cards unless you were in the top 5. List them and then upgrade once you have a better card. You can always remove at a future date as well.

    If the grade is really important, avoid the urge to buy a lesser caliber card. Hold out for the better grade or it will always bother you to have that card listed in your set.
