    Great question...

I personally feel that proof coins are very easy to grade.

I feel that for most people, Mint State pre-1834 coins are the hardest to grade. Early copper coins are quite difficult and copper coins in general are hard to grade, or at least hard to figure out the color/luster issues.

Personally, the hardest coins for me to grade are $2 & 1/2 and $5 Indians. I think I have a great grading eye, but I cannot tell the difference between 61, 62, and 63 $2 & 1/2 and $5 Indians. Our graders seem to have solid opinions on the grades of these coins and can discuss their opinion in detail. For the life of me I just don't get it. If they had a grading test for 61 to 64 $2 &1/2 and $5 Indians, I would fail. So if you bring a 62/63 $5 Indian to me at a show for a grading opinion don't be suprised if I tell you I'm not the right person to ask for an opinion.
