Sunspots on silver Eagles.... NOT!
I saw a thread a few days ago about someone looking for an example of a silver Eagle that didn't have what appeared to be a spot of some dried substance on the sun, causing what they termed sunspots.
I just pulled out a roll to look at mine and saw what he was talking about.....BUT..... it's actually a raised portion of the coin and is a result of a depression in the die. The luster of the coin is what makes it look like a spot! Since it is apparant on so many coins in differrent locations, it's probably something that is on a master die.

I was the one that posted that thread. The only reason it didnt seem right is I have seen 03's with no raised areas on the sun. I am glad you took the time to look at this and come up with a good explanation. I did notice after I posted that my some of my other Eagles from 89 onward had these areas. Thanks again for the explanation.
