Unless there is a prolonged war, I believe that whatever the effects are, they have already been factored in.
We have been fortunate to have enjoyed a pretty darned good coin market in the midst of some tough economic times. I can only imagine how wonderful things might have been, had the economy been booming during the past few years.
Although, Mark, the contrarian view is that people moved to coins precisely because investments elsewhere weren't panning out. Instead of investing more into a sinking stock market, perhaps some collectors said to themselves, well if I'm going to lose money, at least I ought to have a little fun doing it.

Numismatics is a luxury. I cannot believe that people will be able to enjoy this luxury as much if we are in a war. Consequently, I do believe that it will have a negative impact on collectibles.
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows. I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
I can honestly say that my recent (last 6 months) adventure into coin collecting began when I started to look for other "investment" opportunities. Much of the money spent came out of funds that would have otherwise been earmarked for my investment account. That said, the coins that I purchased were not for the investment, but for my enjoyment, with the hope that their value may be stable/enhanced over time. If not, it is okay as I still send money to investment account regularly.
I must say that the bear market in stocks has made me a far better and more diversified investor going forward. I am glad that it occurred so early in my life cycle (I am 37).
Anyways, going forward, both coin dealers (one in particular) and Fidelity, T Rowe Price, Vanguard, etc will both be getting my new funds.

P.S. If anyone wants to start a mutual fund thread, I used to be a community volunteer at the AOL/Sage mutual fund message boards, and I would be happy to participate. I know a heck a lot more about funds than coins (not saying much).

I don't think it'll have any direct affect on my business, which is still pretty small-scale, anyway. Small-scale, but booming!
