I have just completed my Peace dollar collection in BU with this 1921 High Relief Peace dollar.

1921 High Relief Peace $ NCS-UNC

Even though the piece is whizzed, I still like it. It does not look like it has any major detractions and I think it will retone nicely over time. I did not feel like spending a huge amount. My PCGS/NGC/ANACS examples are 65 for the common dates and 61-63 for the keys/semi keys, so I think this piece will keep the collection consistent. Who knows, I may upgrade in the future, but for know this one does the job. It is also my first NCS coin. I think the price was right.
Your thoughts?

  • ACK! I love it. I've thought about one of those for a while to add to my Peaces. Now I wonder how that fits into the savings plan between a '16D dime and a 2001-D Sac in high grade?

Congratulations on finishing your set! Seems like a nice price for the piece, too.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I think paying full MS60 price was fair for a coin that probably grades 63.

    Hi Wingedliberty,

I see we have the same collecting taste. I am also working on the Peace dollars, but I have not completed this series either. The 1921 is an amazing coin. In most series, the key date is just like the other coins except for the date. The 1921 Peace has so many extra small details that are missing in the other coins in the series. I have 2 1921's in MS64. That is a nice grade for the key dates. The keys in 65 or 66 are so expensive.

Thanks alot Merc. Its funny that you should say that. I have never run into a Merc collector who did not enjoy Peace dollars as well. Its funny how things run in patterns.
