The weak D Lincolns can be very weak and if you don't have the light at just the right angle, you won't even see it. That what makes the no D so valuable as there can be no trace of a D at all.

A prime example of why I always say that scanners do not do well with coins, especially circulated copper. I can barely make out a Lincoln cent there.
