New fee for Show grading seems kinda steep

Sounds like PCGS wants to limit the amount of show grading they do. They are now charging $100 for all show grading. This was included in the service fee update that I got in the mail today.

Note to Mr. Hall:

My opinion on this is that even at the rate of $65 which was previously in place that this was too high. With the fee going to $100 per coin no matter of value then you will lose business for show submissions. If this is your goal in the price increase then it might work but if you are trying this out to get responses and will take the amount of submissions as if it is really a good idea I believe you will find that the show submissions will drop.

Hopefully you will put the $65 fee back in place.

    Don't know, I don't do show grading.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I can't afford show grading, be it $65 or $100, that would buy a nice common date gem Walker or Peace dollar, or a nice VF Bust half.

My suspicions are that when they do show grading they have to deal with angry submitters who are there in person who can be vocal
and unfriendly when they don't get what they want, and this all takes place at a show, the last place you want to anger submitters.

The extra money basically makes it more tolerable to have to deal with disappointed submitters. Getting fewer submissions at shows is probably ok with them.

I agree with this statement as probably being true however charging a higher fee because of this situation seems to be wrong.
