If you ever get to meet David (Dahlonega) and Al - do so - it's a treat! (very yummy 82CC pic inside

One of the great things about this hobby is the fact that you can talk to people, whether here, or at coin shows and learn a ton. I had the pleasure of once again spending some time with David Patton (Dahlonega) and Al Adams at their table, and in a very short time I got lessons on grading, history, coins, as well as getting to see a few coins that mere mortals don't get to see very often. If you're ever at a coin show (they'll be at Charlotte bytheway) and see a couple of laid back fellas with a boat load of REALLY rare Charlotte and Dahlonega gold (among other morsels) I highly encourage you to introduce yourselves and say hey - It'll be worth your while!!
Oh - and you might even pick up a nice coin in the process

Do you want a guesstimate as to the grade it might be last year or currently?
I just got back 4 CCs from PCGS, and based on those four 63s, this coin might get a 62, but I be quite perturbed if it got higher than 63. It looks like, and of course this is a generalization with no huge numbers to back it, but, MS64 is reserved for coins just shy of 65 and63 for all others.
Maybe someone is trying to eliminate the grade of 64; you know, back to 60, 63, 65 or something similar.
There is no way these four coins are all MS63. I would have tried to link them, but I have a cheap scanner, the image host I use (free by the way) is q pain in the neck, and frankly everybody else's coins were so "hi-powered" I haven't bothered trying to post images. Didn't want to bore anyone.
Anyway, I was sorely disappointed in those grades, and I would really like to know who is the catalyst for the current grading strategy. I am not saying it's right or wrong -- I just want to know who is responsible, so I may better formulate an opinion on how I feel about it. In other words, I can understand it if current graders have always had such a philosophy -- I guess it's why in a prior thread I asked who was in the grading room.
