    Rookie Wagner has torn cartilage in right knee

    CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers rookie Dajuan Wagner has torn cartilage in his right knee and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

    Wagner, Cleveland's No. 1 pick and the sixth overall selection in the 2002 draft, said he will undergo surgery on Tuesday.


    The Cavaliers will not rush Wagner back into the lineup.


    "This is something you can return from relatively quickly, but we are not going to push him,'' general manager Jim Paxson said. "I would project that he would be working out by May.''

    The Cavaliers have lost seven straight and 13 of 14, and are a league-worst 11-53.


    The 20-year-old Wagner said he injured the knee sometime before the All-Star Game, but continued to play after missing the first 14 games of the season after surgery for a blood clot resulting from a bladder infection. He admitted he should have told someone about the injury.


    "The coaches noticed me limping a couple of weeks ago, and I told them I was all right,'' Wagner said. "I thought it was just the wear and tear of playing pro ball.


    "I finally told the trainer last week that I was hurting.''


    Wagner is averaging 13.4 points and 2.8 assists in 47 games
