Question about downgrades?

When a coin gets downgraded and PCGS pays off on the difference what value or price guide do they use? Do they use their own price guide and if not why bother having one if they don't even use it or update it? Does anyone know or figured this out? Thanks, sorry if this has been covered before.image

When a coin is downgraded, sometimes they replace the coin. I had this happen with NGC. As for the price guide, typically they use the greysheet. It is more respected and it is lower. The PCGS price guide is for a quick, down and dirty estimate of a coin's value. Greysheet is much closer to reality.

I agree. Find a coin that you like of similar value of the previous grade, contact PCGS, PCGS will then contact the dealer, and you will probably get that shiney, new coin.
