IS IT STILL COLLECTING?

Is it still collecting when your sets require only the current year's coins and you're not even looking?
Is it still collecting when your coins sit in the albums packed away and not looked at for months?
Is it still collecting when the thought of starting something new brings a feeling of dread instead of anticipation?
Is it still collecting when coins in need of better grades go un-updated?
I thought completing sets would give me a sense of acomplishment but have left only a feeling of apathy. The thrill is gone. Think I'll just pack it all away and forget about it.

PS- Feel free to add your own despairs and concerns about your collecting.

if you can't find some area to dabble in or some new project to devote some interest towards, you may be burned out and just need a break to recharge your collecting batteries. heck, without knowing what you collect, what sets you have complete and stuff like that it's hard to give an accurate diagnosis!!image

please, relax on the couch and tell us all about it.................

Yep. And through all the thoughts of money coins, monsters, blasts, series, registry, etc. there is ultimately only one thing I found that I care about: coins that appeal to me and make me smile when I see them. No investment coins, no coins for coins sake. But coins that make me want to look at them over and over. Modern, ancient (yes, ancient), world (yes, world), classic American, bullion, whatever. For in that lies my fun in coins.

For #2, I would say no, it isn't collecting. I stopped collecting for 15 years and looked at my coins maybe 10 times in that period. At that point, it was holding the investment. Collecting to me is actively seeking and acquiring new coins.

A collection is a living thing. If it isn't growing in some way then it's dying.
Collecting is about having fun and a diversion from the more mundane things
in our lives. If it's not working for you then you'll need to discover why. Per-
haps it's because you're working on something too hard or too easy or just
not interesting to you. Perhaps you're over concerned about the cost or the
hype or something far more personal. Try not to worry about it until you fig-
ure out what's the problem. I hope you get "it" back, good luck.

Several months ago, in the Coin Collector, our very own QDB talked about Captain Cook, and that he was such a voracious collector of all things. Once while visiting an island, one enterprising native presented him with a turd on a stick to collect.

    Funny coming from QDB!

    Am I still collecting???
