So I buy a roll.. (Ebay rant...)

Sometimes I'll pick up a fed wrapped roll of something or another from ebay. Every time I've been happy, I pay the price to be the first to open them, & all have been tight ended shtogun fed rolls. I check the mail today, & there is my roll of '62 jeffersons. Ok, its in a fed roll, but it definatly has been opened. One end is all loosey-goosey, & the roll practically falls apart in my hands. & gee whiz... There isn't a single step on any of the coins (not that I was necessarily expecting any full steppers, but with a fed roll it should be left to chance. Not a possible stacked deck).

I hate ebay, I hate ebay, I hate ebay. Should I tear him a new one in email, or feedback?

I doubt there will be a return policy (none stated) due to the nature of the auction.

I should've known better..

-Sam

Did the seller state that it was unopened? If he didn't, then he did nothing wrong, no matter how much it sucks.

    from auction:

<< <i>These coins have not seen the light of day since they were minted and put in rolls!
"I can't tell you about the strike of the coins (as the roll has never been opened--even by me)..."
I can make no promises here (as I have not opened this specific roll... >>

NEG the seller and send him nasty emails and tell him what a scumsucking idiot he is! Serves the idiot right.

  • Virgin?

It does say that this roll has never been opened but I didn't see anything about a return policy. Did you pay with PayPal?

Well, I can understand why you are upset.
I would try emailing him before posting negative feedback. I have won an auction or two before, where I felt like I was mislead. I've emailed those sellers and suprisingly most were very apologetic and issued refunds without hesitation.
I would just explain the situation in a pleasant email. He may be willing to take them back. If not, neg 'em!

I don't like the picture, looks like it's been opened to me. I was looking at this auction and PASSED, just buy looking at the picture of the roll. I think you sould eat it. You saw the picture, and bid on the coins. Rack it up to experence!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Yes, I used paypal - funded acount, not CC.

In the picture, thats actually the good unopened end.
  • email then if refund ignored neg him. You need to follow through so another Ebayer buyer does not get taken.

The picture tells all. Its been clearly opened. Don't fret there are MANY rolls of 62 Jeffs that are genuine that you won't find a coin with a single step on. Email the seller and say that the roll was already opened - not like the auction stated. Another thing is that on many old rolls you will have one side that may appear "opened", beat up ,etc. When these rolls sat in bags the ends of the rolls on the outside and bottom of the bag take a beating. I found a 68-S Jeff in FS out of one of these rolls the "appeared" to be opened.

If no refund policy is stated in the auction does ebay have a standard return policy (like Coin World for example) or is just caveat emptor? If the seller refuses to accept a return, does ebay do anything about that?

#1 - The mint didn't wrap the rolls, the fed reserve did.
#2 - The fed reserve didn't use wrappers like that. Fed reserve wrappers state so.
#3 - The fed reserve also didn't re-bag the rolls. They sent them out in boxes.

so what did you lose? $10? $20?? Who cares. You spend that much going to the movies. Chalk it up to entertainment.

It looks like he relisted it again - you can buy the same set of pictures again!!

It is possible the seller just did not know, and got a bad deal himself.
