Sorry i don't know of any scanner that can capture colors, luster, and details. Cameras really aren't that bad if you get a good camera and a decent photography area. I atually think using a camera is faster than a scanner and IMO you get much better results.
I have switched to a camera. They make it possible to produce more accurate images. However it takes me MUCH more time to get a decent image.
For over a year I seemed to do OK with a scanner. For deep cameo and toned coins you may have to put something under one end of the slab so the coin is tilted. Scanners always have the same light so are more predictable and easy.
Howdy! I've been using the cheapest available scanner for a while now. I think the images are OK. Mint Luster doesn't capture real well though. If you want examples, you can peek at the coins on our website.
