I always liked evil Greg's posts even when they were pointed. He made us think. However, I'm sure when he posted the blantant NGC commercial that pushed it over the top.
Many are in attendance in Balt. EVP is one. Best Julian
PNG member, same identity as Julian, a veteran numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
I don't want to get fired twice in the same month, but i will always try to be honost with other collectors about how i feel on any serious collecting issue. If someone asks my opionion on something they will get an honest answer with no personal attacks but with blunt to the point honosty.
Hopefully, that will not get me banned but i will not give up speaking my mind about things i care about to avoid possible consequences.
I have no idea if some members have been baned or are just in Baltimore, but i do know being banned for speaking your mind will not improve this forum and i think p.c.g.s. will lose more than it gains if this turns out to be wide spread.
I also think some of the recent good things that David told us were happening like the presidential reviews or the full torch designation for rosevelt dimes were at least in part a result of loyal p.c.g.s. members with concerns posted on these boards. Those are very good things resulting from David and p.c.g.s. listening to customer concerns or complaints and hopefully fear of being banned will not stop these issues being braught up here so other collectors can agree or dissagree and we can see a company that continues to listen and respond to it's customers large or small. barberlover [Les Levin]
The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.
Wow, Greg's been NARUed? Can't believe that. He's a long time member and the original devil's advocate here, a vital role. He kept the sugar levels down. Didn't always agree with him or admire his tact, but grew to admire his consistency and smarts. Sometimes the most favorable threads about PCGS were the direct result of his opposite views, it works both ways like that.
Ed, I am going to miss you. Please don't jump! We need you here!

"France said this week they need more evidence to convince them Saddam is a threat. Yeah, last time France asked for more evidence it came rollin thru Paris with a German Flag on it." -Dave Letterman
I think he is a great source for "telling it like it is". his commentary was sometimes brash but really rang true, and i always found it to be accurate. I don't think he made unsolicited statements about PCGS. He was an aid on a great deal of subjects - I don't think he slung mud just for the sake of slinging it.
There are a lot of people who use the boards for what they can get out of them, whether it be publicity, knowledge etc. Greg was one that OFFERED that knowledge.
If dakra is banned, it was probably for the "Announcements" post he made the other night. The night DH made the Announcements posts he created a new one that was extremely unflattering to PCGS and wrote it as if he was DH, and signed it "HRH".
Could be--I don't see that thread anymore.
I also don't see the one EVP started with the NGC statement in it.
Greg and others who have been booted have been posting across the street. I never found Greg's post to be without substantiation. His posts, many times, were on the money with what I had also experienced. His removal is a black eye. Shame should be felt by PCGS.
<< <i>I always liked evil Greg's posts even when they were pointed. He made us think. However, I'm sure when he posted the blantant NGC commercial that pushed it over the top. >>
Wait! I can't be banned.......I haven't made my long awaited introductory thread. Nor have I suprassed the "piker" level for number of posts. I better hurry and post my introduction thread before I get whacked.
This thread just proves the point. This banning move on PCGS' part was incredibly dumb PR-wise (not to say unnecessary), and has reaped far more ill-will than any comments Greg et al. may have made.
EVP's posts have been quite valuable and in the right context. If he gets banned, I'll be on his heels. I figured Greg would be the first to go so I was not surprised at this. When you're that outspoken, you have to be willing to take it too. It appears that the NGC forum will become a livlier place very soon.
What's that song by the Righteous Brothers? Rock n' Roll Heaven? Greg's in NGC "coin" Heaven, and hear they got a hell of a band!!!!
rock on mean and evil.....we'll all be there soon.
*cough* *cough* boycott *cough* *cough* PCGS when u mess with one mean forum member you mess with them all, you dont know what kind of disease i have stored up in my rodent mouth... wanna find out?
I cannot believe that EVP got the boot. I just bought a beautiful 1869 PR-62 dollar from him. He is very knowlegeable on many subjects and a great asset to this board.
Sometimes people confuse point of view with absolute truth. We have a personal duty to try to distinguish between the two, and not try to stir things up too much to get people to see things the way we do. That is only overbearing and can turn to mean, real fast. There are principals, ideas, opinions, thoughts, beliefs, etc., etc., We make the mistake when we don't examine our selves to see where we are in that group, and then open our mouth. Defending, convincing, swaying, attacking, etc., etc., another area we need to look at our selves first. Sometimes a third party see's this so much clearer than the ones enmeshed in this whirlwind. Let these chips fall, and let's try to learn from all this.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
EVP!!!!! Great to see you. Both you and Greg have been very helpful in my developing numismatic knowledge, in public posts and via PM.
Greg - We will miss you. I am already regretting PCGS's decision. While it may be best for their business in the long term as these recent hot topics fade away, it is like having old friends move a long way away.
Well, like so many others, I also have an ID on the NGC forums. My time split had been 98% CU, 2% NGC. This will now be 50%/50%. Just a couple mouse clicks away.

EVP- Sure glad to see your post! Was it a temporary suspension, or have you been away from a computer? I look forward to your continued contributions here.
I am back from the show and finally getting through all these posts... Thanks for all the words of support.
I have to say that I am greatly troubled that CU decided to ban Greg and Dakra for a number of reasons:
1. I believe FrattLaw mentioned that if you are a paid member of CU (for submissions), then you get access to this message board. In short, our paid membership includes the right to post. 2. I believe that it is a bad idea to ban a member for political content, no matter how odious. It gives the impression that you have something to hide. 3. This policy is quite a surprise to us. We all expect to get kicked off for normal "bad" behavior like foul language, sexual comments, etc. But for political content? I think a harsh warning to restrict your political content to "sincere, objective, reasonably factual, and constructive" before banning would be a lot more appropriate.
I have just registered at numisaddict tonight. I also regularly spend much time across the street. I have yet to decide how much time and effort I will be putting in over here. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells here, and that is an unpleasant feeling. I am not a paid member, and recognize that I am just a guest. I don't wish to offend the hosts, but I also don't wish to work too hard trying to avoid their over-sensibilities...
I know that I intend to put in my best posting efforts across the street, and I will also give numisaddict a chance. As for here, I dunno... Maybe I'll do more here once I feel comfortable again.
