Completed my 53 set-the last to cards do not show on the registry yet but will shortly-had to settle for about 15 7's-the rest are 8's with a sprinkling of 9's-its my favorite set and has been the most difficult

Congratulations! What do you think this lot will go for in the next Mastro auction?
PSA 10 Campanella 1953
Congratulations!!!
What is your next project?

I have a 1953 , 1956, and a 1958 set all complete in approx. a bit less than NM overall shape, done in the mid-80s, all too costly for my situation to grade and improve the quality more than slightly. The 53 set is especially interesting via the extinct teams the set shows so well. I sent my best "star" card in about a year ago and got a psa 7 on Eddie Mathews of the Boston Braves. Makes me really appreciate the quality and value of your set.

Congrats! I am a long way from my goal of a 1953 set in PSA 8.
Does this mean I won't be outbid by you in the future on 53's? I assume that was you who won the 53 Rosen recently?
Any 53 PSA 8 on EBAY has been a tough fight. There have been a few big hitters recently on EBAY snatching up all of the low pop 53's. You know who you are.... One of the 10 lowest pop cards recently went for 1700%(17x) of book. And the Alvin Dark, the lowest pop is scheduled to go in 3 days and is already at 10 times book. I think I'll stick to the stars for now, I feel like I get a better deal for the money.
Let's hear from the other 53 collector's out there...my brother's in arms, speak up. Identify yourselfs.

I posted scans of the cards... I actually like the look of these (cleaner) than the 53s...

<< <i> And the Alvin Dark, the lowest pop is scheduled to go in 3 days and is already at 10 times book. >>
I checked the pop report and actually #101 Ted Wilks holds the honor of lowest pop with 6 PSA 8's and 1 PSA 9 vs 7 PSA 8's and 1 PSA 9 for the Dark.
First off, let me say gemint is right. Wilks is now the lowest at 6. Both he and Dark were tied at 6 PSA 8's about a month ago. So someone found a goldmine.
The PSA 8 Dark auction ended with a final price of $2949.00. The SMR is $165, and that just increased in the last 2 months. It was probably $125 before that.
So next time you think you have issues getting that last low pop card in the set. Remember us poor saps going for a 53 run of PSA 8's.
And yes, the winner is the same guy who seems to always dominant us. Don't know who he is, but he always blows me away...and not just on the low pops.
