On the Full Torch designation, wouldn't it make sense...

to go after the known dates in other series (Jefferson Nickels and Franklin Halves) that are the key designated (Full Step or Full Bell Lines) dates for those series? ie 1953 S etc.

I think he means that there may be some correlation with the scarcity of FT dimes in years/mms that are scarce fully struck for the other denominations, such as 1953-S, which are scarce in FBL and FS.

I think that this may pretty good general reasoning, that there will be exceptions, and that the tale will be told as the populations grow.

Morris, that's a good starting place - and the 53S is probably a tougher date in MS67 FT but I seriously doubt that its going to be the toughest FT date in the series. No question the "S" mints of the early to mid 50S are going to be difficult in FT as they are in FBL. No surprise, the "D" mints are probably going to be relatively easy as a whole (note, there may be some more difficult ones). The SURPRISE for folks not already in the know is going to be finding some of those "P" mint coins in FT - and there are going to be some toughies no doubt. It'll take months (at least) before the pop reports tell the story and it will be SKEWED up front as the Registry set collectors that have salted away FT coins for years and years getthem submitted - some of the more difficult coins may appear to be easier than they really are as a result short term. But after 6-30-02 when the "free" program runs out, then we'll see how the reports really begin to change.......or not. Who knows, just like someone made 28 PCGS MS67 1955D Dimes at the end of last year (pop went from 25 to 53), someone may find the killer roll of FT coins and the pop's are forever changed!

    Time will tell.......

While we're at it, how about FS memorial Lincoln cents? There are many dates, especially in the 1960s that have the same step problem as Jefferson nickels. Rounded off and incomplete.

I recall in homerunall's original "Announcement" for the FT designation, there was some talk of 2 prominent collectors.......
